Scouting

I have been involved with Scouting since I was a young boy.  My dad grew up in India and did not have the opportunity to participate in Boy Scouts.  As a result, he took great interest in Scouting as a parent.  Dad was one of my Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders, while my mom served as one of my sister’s Girl Scout leaders.  These two organizations share a common set of values, which is also shared by male and female youth and adults of all ages worldwide.

I will share stories, quotes, photos, videos, and other information about Scouting in this section of the NoBullPhil blog.  As you will discover, Scouting’s values are universal…shared by other youth organizations, service clubs, nonprofits, and yes, even businesses.  My goal is to help people learn how to apply their personal values to decisions they must make, situations they must resolve, and challenges they must overcome.  Even if you are not a “Scout”, Scouting provides a framework of values that can help you face a “Moment of Truth”…when you must select a better path to take in your future journeys than you have taken in the past.

For example, during my volunteer Scouting career, it is has been a pleasure for me to attend several National and World Scout Jamborees.  In 2007, I served as Scoutmaster of Troop 302, representing the Central Region of the United States at the centenaryWorld Scout Jamboree.  This event celebrated the founding of Scouting by Lord Baden-Powell.  The Jamboree was held in Hyland Park, England, representing the 21st such international gathering of Scouts from more than 150 nations.

The theme of the 21st World Scout Jamboree was “One World.  One Promise.”  The following YouTube video shows a performance of the official jamboree song during the Closing Ceremony of the 2007 Jamboree.  The jamboree song speaks to the vision of Scouting for the 21st Century, which is equally relevant to the entire world today.  I hope you find its message appealing, inspiring you to check back in this section of the NoBullPhil blog for other stories that connect Scouting to our lives.
